Bifocals
Bifocal contact lenses can also be called segmented contact lenses. With
bifocal lenses, the top lens portion is used for distance vision, whereas
the the bottom portion of the lens is used for near (reading) vision.
Bifocal contacts offer the wearer alternating vision aid, allowing for
near and distance vision correction.

Bifocal contacts are fitted specifically to the wearers eyes. These lenses
are designed for patients who present presbyopia. Available as both soft
contact lenses or gas permeable contacts, bifocals today can be purchased
as disposable lenses or frequent replacement wear lenses. Daily disposable
bifocal lenses are quickly becoming the most popular choice in bifocal
contacts in the marketplace today.

What you need to know about bifocal contact
lenses
There are three primary designs of bifocal contacts.
1) Bifocals with concentric design - With
this design of lenses, the near vision correction is usually in the middle
of the lens and the distance vision correction is on the exterior parts of
the lens
b) Bifocals with aspheric design - With these
bifocals, both the near and distance vision correction sits close to the
center
c) Bifocals with translating design - These
bifocals provide near vision correction at the bottom portion of the lens
and distance vision correction at the top
Bifocal contacts can also vary is terms of how vision correction is
achieved. Some bifocals are designed in a similar fashion to bifocal
eyeglasses, with the wearer's two different prescriptions divided halfway
on the lens. Other bifocal lenses will blend the different prescriptions
across the contact in a similar fashion to progressive eyeglasses.
The various features offered by different bifocal contact lenses provide
the wearer with varied benefits and features. A visit to your eye care
practitioner is all it takes to ensure that you get the best bifocals to
address your unique vision needs.
